The Romanian Sports Arbitration Tribunal Established
PRESS RELEASE
Considering the absence in Romania of a specialized sports law tribunal to adjudicate cases specific to sporting needs, as well as the unique nature of this branch of law, the Romanian Association of Sports Arbitration has decided to establish the Romanian Sports Arbitration Tribunal (R.S.A.T.), an entity independent of any sports organization whose purpose is to resolve sports-related disputes through arbitration or mediation, in accordance with procedural rules adapted to the specific needs of sports law.
The Romanian Sports Arbitration Tribunal is a form of institutionalized arbitration, as regulated by Law no. 134/2010, the Civil Procedure Code, in Title VII of Book IV “On Arbitration”. R.S.A.T. operates based on its own regulations applicable to all disputes submitted for resolution, according to an arbitration agreement.
The Tribunal is under the administrative and financial authority of the Romanian Association of Sports Arbitration (R.A.S.A.). In regulating and conducting arbitration activities, the Romanian Sports Arbitration Tribunal is autonomous in relation to the institution that established it, namely the Romanian Association of Sports Arbitration.
The institutionalized arbitration activity within R.S.A.T. is non-profit and does not pursue economic gain.
